Tips and Tricks Nr. 3 - How can I reduce the power consumption on the X100T?

I think, this has happened to all of us at least once:

Walking around in a beautiful place, willing to take some nice pics, but gradually becomes more and more clear that no much battery has been left available on the camera (at least not enough battery to use the camera as we want).

Good organised photographers have the habit to have  2 or 3 reserve batteries in their bag, but honestly, amateur users don´t really need the extra batteries :)

So, these are the first things that I tried to understand using the X100T: 1) how can I optimise the energy consumption at my needs and 2) how can I extend the battery life of the camera.

Following options are available to achieve it:

1.  a) go to SHOOTING MENU 5
     b) go to FLASH MODE
     c) choose SUPPRESSED FLASH

2. use only the MANUAL FOCUS

3. use the OVF

4. a) go to menu SET-UP 2
    b) go to POWER MANAGEMENT
    c) activate AUTO POWER OFF by choosing 2 MIN
    d) activate the  OVF POWER SAVE MODE (no histogram is being showed on OVF)
    e) disable HIGH PERFORMANCE

At last but not least, enviroment conditions. The battery life generally depends on the temperature and humidity conditions while taking pictures.

I hope that the blog entry was quite helpful today,

till next time:)

Tips and Tricks Nr. 2 - How can I take some really quiet shots (also without any light) with the X100T?

So, the first and easiest thing to do is to activate the SILENT MODE.
The disadvantages -for others advantages- while using this mode are:

a) FLASH MODE doesn't work,
b) AF ILLUMINATOR (this extra light that helps the camera to focus) also doesn't work,
c) the MECHANICAL SHUTTER remains activated.

Another way to be as quiet as possible is to do the following things:

1) a) go to SET-UP  2
    b) go to SOUND SET-UP
    c) turn the OPERATION VOL. and the SHUTTER VOLUME off.

2) a) go to SHOOTING MENU 5
    b) go to SHUTTER TYPE
    c) choose the ELECTRONIC SHUTTER
[While using the ELECTRONIC SHUTTER, you have to keep in mind that it is not possible to use the FLASH MODE and that while taking a PANORAMA photo the MECHANICAL SHUTTER is being used].

3) use the MANUAL FOCUS

In order to work without any light at all, here are my recommendations:

1) a) go to SHOOTING MENU 1
    b) go to AF ILLUMINATOR and turn it off

2) a) go to SHOOTING MENU 5
    b) go to FLASH MODE
    c) choose SUPPRESSED FLASH.

The only thing that I could't find out how to turn off (and I don't really know if it is really possible) is the backlight above the MENU/OK button. I suppose that the only way to take pictures without this light is to cover it with something :)

So, I hope you found my tips useful. Check the next post about how to reduce the battery consumption of the X100T!

Tips and Tricks Nr. 1 - Flash doesn't work!

The first thing I did when I took the X100t on my hands was to charge the battery. After that I have just started taking pictures!

I have to admit that I don't like how the camera sounds (I mean the sound operating the camera and the shutter sound). At that time I didn't know how to use the camera, so in order to get rid of the camera sounds I decided to activate the SILENT MODE of the camera!

After a while I wanted to test the FLASH MODE of the camera till I discovered that the FLASH MODE doesn't work.

So here is my recommendation to you, if you also find out that the FLASH MODE doesn't work:

1) Check the SILENT MODE of the X100T.

In order to activate / deactivate the SILENT MODE take the following steps:

a) Press [MENU/OK] button

b) Go to the 1st SET-UP Menu
c) Choose SILENT MODE
d) Choose OFF

The FLASH MODE cannot be used also out of the STILL IMAGE MODE!

I hope that the post helped you.

If you still wish to take some quiet shots without choosing the SILENT MODE,
follow the recommendations of the next post!

Why have I bought the Fuji X100T? (no technical details)

Hello everybody,

I finally got the Fujifilm X100T in my hands. Everybody says and writes on web about how beautiful this camera is. I have to agree with them.

Actually I was searching for quite a long time about the right camera. Finding the suitable gear depends on the current life situation (maybe also from the future one, but who can really see through life?). So, I decided that writing about me leads directly to the reasons of buying the X100T.

1) Around 30 years old.

Jep, not a kid anymore. Somehow I am finished with studying and wandering. The years have passed and I have really started appreciating owning good things. It is not about buying expensive fancy stuff, I just like quality products that I can rely on them.

2) Living and working in a big city – Hamburg, Germany.

Except of lot of cars and people, there are quite a lot of interesting things to take pictures. Actually I don`t know where to start from. From monuments to modern building complexes, the river and the harbor, neighborhoods with alternative flair, everyday life situations, big city social contrasts, et cetera.

Working full time in an office makes time (and daylight) fly away. Going to and coming from work can offer a good chance for some nice street photography shots. Having a big camera isn´t though quite so useful: a) attracts attention (especially in city areas where taking pictures can become a small adventure), b) you cannot carry it in your pocket / bag / jacket easily, c) cannot be used so fast, d) it is not so beautiful.

It somehow starts to get closer to a compact camera.

3) Love cycling

I love riding with my bicycle across the city. It gives me the chance of thinking, seeing and observing things, trying to find some nice motives. Having a big camera doesn´t pass to the flexibility offered from a bicycle.

4) Family and friends

For this reason having a relative small gadget, that can be used from everyone in the family or from friends at any circumstances, becomes somehow an important buy criterion.

Along my research, I discovered that the X100T the right one for me is, a compact quality camera - it also has to be bigger than my smartphone ;) .

So I just got it. I am really looking forward to start taking  pictures with the camera.

Keep in touch, in the following posts I will start getting more into details about the X100T .
